New Delhi: Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni on Tuesday condoled the death of senior journalist George Joseph, who died on Monday of cardiac arrest.

In her message, Soni said "George Joseph was a veteran journalist whose death has caused an irreparable loss to the glorious profession of journalism."

"Joseph displayed tremendous courage and commitment in reporting events, including happenings in Kashmir Valley when it was afflicted by militancy," added Soni in her message.

"I pray to God to grant strength to his family in this hour of grief," she said.     Joseph, 57 had worked with several newspapers, including the Indian Express and the Times of India and was at present the political editor of news agency Indo-Asian News Service (IANS).

He suffered a heart attack on Sunday at his home in Vaishali and was rushed to a hospital in Noida, about 20-kilometre southeast of the Capital.
