Srinagar: In a move to strengthen the performance and reach of different media units in Jammu and Kashmir, Information and Broadcasting Ministry is mulling to introduce structural improvements in the state, said a senior official of the ministry on Friday.

Uday Kumar Varma, Secretary to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, said this at a meeting of all the media units under the ministry here.

Varma stressed the need for close coordination and synchronisation to improve performance of the media units for effective results at grass-root level.

He said all media units need to bring transparency and encourage work culture to flourish, for improving the information dissemination mechanism.

"This would help in reaching out to the common masses with the information about policies, programmes, achievements and initiatives of the Central Government, in a better way," Varma said.

The secretary also called for strengthening Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC) with instructions to hold IMPCC meetings on monthly basis for this purpose.

Varma said the Ministry is constituting a recruitment board and framing rules within six months, for strengthening the Prasar Bharti Broadcasting Corporation of India (PBBCI).

He assured the meeting that the issue of office accommodation for the media units other than Prasar Bharti will be looked into and instructed the officers concerned to work out some temporary feasible arrangements.

Earlier, Varma chaired a similar meeting at Jammu and also visited proposed site for High Power Transmitter of AIR and Doordarshan at Nathatop-Patnitop on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
