Manipur Chief Minister and Congress candidate Okram Ibobi Singh is contesting from his own turf Thoubal Assembly constituency. In the last Assembly elections, he defeated L Tomba Singh by gaining 72.86 percent votes. In 2007, Ibobi Singh also contested from Khangabok seat where he defeated L Jatra Singh.

This time he has decided to fight election only from Thoubal seat which has the maximum of hyper-sensitive polling stations (227).

The Communist Party of India has fielded Indira Oinam against the CM from Thoubal seat. People’s Democratic Front comprises Manipur People’s Party (MPP), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Janata Dal (United), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) has decided to extend support to Oinam in order to give a tough fight to the CM.
