1. Amrish Puri entered the film industry with a hope to become a hero.

2. He failed his first screen test, following which he landed a job with the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).

3. While doing his job, his passion for acting was intact. Puri acted in plays at Prithvi Theatre written by the legendary Satyadev Dubey.

4. He earned a lot of recognition as a stage actor and even won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1979.

5. Following the success on stage, Puri worked in television commercials.

6. By the time Amrish Puri made his film debut, he was in his late 30’s

7. Puri’s first role was in the Marathi movie ‘Shantatu! Court Chalu Aahe’, in which he played a blind man singing in a railway compartment.

8. Amrish Puri debuted in Hindi film with ‘Reshma Aur Shera’ (1972).
