Raipur: Raipur Municipal Corporation has become the first corporation in the country to pay the pension to the pensioners through biometric card system under National Social Assistance Programme.

For this, IDBI has prepared cards for destitute on the lines of ATM cards. These cards were launched and later on distributed among 51 people in the presence of Mayor Dr. Kiranmayi Nayak and Head of Social Welfare and Poverty alleviation in Thakkarbapa ward.
On this occasion, Mayor Kiranmayi said that benefit of Central Government schemes is directly being given to the people through IDBI Bank.

Cards of the bank have been prepared through biometric system. Earlier pensioners were being paid pensions through regional banks due to which beneficiaries had faced troubles. Now with smart card having been made available, it is expected that pensioners would not face any problem in getting their pensions.

25,000 people likely to be benefitted

Departmental head said that this card will be delivered at the doorsteps of the pensioners. However, they will be available in the zonal offices as well.
