Srinagar: The malicious intention of terrorists to disrupt the peace in Srinagar was foiled on Thursday. A 5kg Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted on the banks of Dal Lake was spotted by the local residents, who immediately brought the issue to the notice of police department.

Taking a swift action, the bomb disposal squad defused the IED. The 5 kg IED, placed inside a steel container, was planted by suspected militants near a wine shop outside a hotel along Boulevard road in Dalgate area of the city.
   
The police told that a strong IED was planted in the dustbin of hotel Himal’s parking on the banks of Dal lake.

On receiving the information of the bomb, the whole area was vacated by the police and the traffic movement was stopped.

Superintendent of Police, Aashiv Bukhari said, “The IED was made of 4 kg RDX. If it would have exploded during rush hour, could have resulted in huge casualty. Security has been tightened in the wake of the added rush of tourists due to the ongoing Amaranth Yatra.”

Terrorist arrested, weapons found

The security forces also found a terrorist hideout and arrested a dangerous terrorist Ali Mohammad Wani alias Ali Baba as well. According to them, police and three Rashtriya Rifles Jawans raided a terrorist hideout in Karikadal –Anantnag.

Weapons including 1 pistol, 162 bullets, 2 hand–shells, 1 IED and some more bullets were recovered from his possesion.

On Wednesday night, Handwada police and 30 RR jawans carried out a search movement in the Haari jungles. They exposed a terrorist hideout and recovered weapons including 12 motor bombs, 17 grenades, 1 assault rifle and 2,194 bullets into custody.
