Tiruchirapalli (Agencies): The IIM's new centre in Trichy would be functional from the academic year starting June.

"Already the process of recruiting expert faculty members has started. We have received an overwhelming response and as many 365 applications have been received for 12 positions of full time faculty", IIM-Trichy director Prafulla Agnihotri said on Thursday.

"Some applicants which we received were from the US, UAE, France and Philippines", he said.

Special panels have been appointed by the board of governors comprising experts in respective disciplines for the selection of faculty members, Agnihotri added.

It has been agreed upon to admit 60 students in the beginning, he said, adding the curriculum and course content are being prepared and decisions on fee structure would be announced before April-May 2011.

IIM-T had plans to introduce short-term courses addressing the requirements of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Tier 2 towns and tailor made courses for any industry evincing interest in sending their executives to IIM T, he said.

Agnihotri said as many as 15 MNCs and large industrial houses had come forward to join forces with the institution, which is the country's 11th IIM. The collaboration would include providing extensive summer training, hands on experiences to potential managers and educational choice through holistic, functional and relevant case studies, he said.

The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) had started the construction of permanent infrastructure at the 174 acre site along Trichy-Pudukottai highway, he said, and was hopeful that IIM-T would start functioning in its own home during its third year.
