The Times Higher Education magazine on Thursday published the list featuring higher education institutions from 29 countries.

IIT shares the rank on the list with Portugal's New University of Lisbon and Australia's University of Western Sydney.

IIT Guwahati is the only Indian institution to have featured in the 2014 league table of '100 Under 50' institutions released by the London-based magazine.

There are 14 UK institutions in the list compared to 18 last year and 20 in 2012.

In terms of national strength, Australia now matches UK with 14 representatives in the table.

East Asian institutions lead the rankings with universities from South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore claiming the top-five positions.

For the third year in a row, the ranking is headed by South Korea's Pohang University of Science and Technology while its national rival the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology holds on to the third spot it gained last year.
