New Delhi: Amid the hike in university fee, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is mulling to provide 25 percent reservation to the students belonging to economically weaker section.

The premier institute is likely to reserve 25 percent seats for those students whose family’s annual income is not more than Rupees 4.5 lakh. This came as a big reliever to the students.

The IIT will initiate new scholarship for the students to compensate for the tuition and other fee.

However, IIT council has not approved the proposal yet. The recommendations to provide scholarship have been made by Kakodkar Committee to IIT Council.

Post-graduate and Ph D students can also avail the benefit of scholarship. Notably, Central Government bears all the expenses of IIT graduates and post graduates students hailing from economically weaker section.
