Kolkata: Shillong Lajong FC struck through Christopher Chizoba to hold United SC 1-1 in their round 11 I-League fixture at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Wednesday.

Joshimar d'Silva Martins opened the scoring for United in the 28th minute but Lajong forward Chizoba equalised eight minutes later to earn one point for his team.

In a listless display, United missed many chances as the setback meant they now have 18 points, while Lajong are on 13 points from 11 matches each.

Both teams got equal chances in the first half as the Shillong outfit gave the local challengers a testing time after their 0-6 rout against Churchill Brothers.

Eugenson Lyngdoh took a fine left-footer from the left in the 20th minute for Lajong but it was well saved by goalkeeper Abhijeet Mondal.

In the 24th minute, Lajong got a free-kick from a favourable position but could not capitalise.

A few minutes later, Joshimar put United in the lead after a miss-pass in the centre of the field was capitalised by Denson Devdas.

From the Devdas through, Josimar entered the box and beat the rival goalkeeper with a rasping right-footer.

Minutes later, United failed to score when Yakubu, who was sent in the clear, failed to increase the lead.

Lajong were quick to capitalise in the 36th minute when Christopher scored off a half-turn from inside the box.

The second half started with United playing more open football and going for the win but Lajong managed to hold on.
