Kolkata: Sporting Clube de Goa struck a goal through a penalty to hold Mohun Bagan 1-1 in a tenth round I-League encounter at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Saturday.

The evenly-contested match saw both the teams playing a goalless first-half before Syed Rahim Nabi gave the home side a 73rd minute lead.

But in a space of seven minutes, Sporting Clube equalised when Kalu Ogba Nnanna converted a spot kick to earn a point.

Mohun Bagan now have 20 points, while Sporting Clube have 13.

The match started with both teams getting some attempts on opposition goal but there were no clear chances.

While the visitors created chances through a passing game, Mohun Bagan were more content on playing the long ball hoping to find their star striker Odafa Okolie up front.

With Mohun Bagan missing out on key players in Jose Barreto, Sunil Chhetri, Hudson Lima and Ashim Biswas, the home side failed to impress in the first-half with plenty of misspasses on offer.

Frustration started showing in the second-half as NP Pradeep of Bagan and Victorino Fernandes of Sporting received yellow cards for bad tackles in the 55th and 61st minutes respectively.

Mohun Bagan managed to break the stalemate when Rahim was pushed upfront to support Odafa. The move paid off as Nabi placed a long ball past the goalkeeper in the 73rd minute.

But the joy was shortlived as the Goans soon equalised when Victorino crossed the ball into the box which was handled by Bagan defender Kingshuk and a spot kick was awarded.

Kalu stepped up to take the penalty and placed the ball along the ground sending Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Sangaram Mukherjee the wrong way as he went diving to his left.
