Dehradun: The deluge in Uttarakhand has become a safe breeding ground to make hefty earnings for several people who are reportedly framing concocted stories of having lost their relatives in the floods to avail the government compensation.

Interestingly, a man, whose mother passed away three years ago, claimed the compensation. The government officials suspect that many people may try to pump up their fortunes cashing in to the magnitude of damage, floods and landslides inflicted on the hill state.

On Thursday, a woman, who identified herself as Saira, approached the police assistance at Sahastradhara Helipad to claim compensation. However, the police were skeptical regarding claims of losing her husband along with their eight children in the nature’s mayhem. She was ultimately arrested after the cops found her claims fake.

According to Coordination and Circle Officer Swatantra Kumar Singh, who looks after the scheme at Sahastradhara Helipad, utmost care would be taken while disbursing the compensations to check the loopholes.
