Engineering, as a skill, has passed through many phases. With the passage of time, the art of construction has evolved. The evolution of technology has leveraged engineering and as a result we can see some amazing structures around the world.

There is no space on earth where engineering has not marked its presence.

Here, on the occasion of Engineering Day, we bring you some mind-blowing underwater buildings:     

1. H2OME


The H2OME is the world's first undersea residence. It is a US Submarine Structure. The house contains two floors, over 300 square feet of space, two bedrooms, a lounge, a dining room and even special feeding mechanisms to encourage wildlife near the structure to provide a beautiful marine view.

2. Red Sea Star Restaurant / Nymphas Show Bar


Nymphas Show Bar is an old restaurant, bar and observatory that is built completely underwater in Eilat, Israel. Visitors have to cross over a small bridge and go down a small flight of stairs to reach the unique building.

3. Jules’ Undersea Lodge


Jules’ Undersea Lodge is an underwater commercial hotel in Key Largo, Florida, USA. Built in the 1970s, the underwater hotel is the only one of its kind in the United States.

4. Poseidon Undersea Resort


Opened in 2008 on Fiji island, the Poseidon Undersea Resort was built by US Submarine Structures. The resorts have restaurant, bar, library, conference and function rooms, along with a spa, swimming pool and even a wedding chapel.

5. Aquarius Reef Base
The building is an underwater laboratory situated on the ocean floor some 62 feet below sea level off the coast of Florida, USA. Built in 1986, the lab allows marine biologists and scientists to explore the coral reef and investigate the marine life and animals that live there.

6. Cancun Underwater Museum


One of the first underwater museums, Cancun Underwater Museum is a collection of more than 400 sculptures resting on the seafloor in Cancún, QR, Mexico. The thrilling experience of underwater museum makes for a lifetime memory for the visitors.

7. Sea.Fire.Salt.Sky. Restaurant


Located in Thalang District, Thailand, the restaurant is an incredible underwater structure. It has four different floors; each floor has a distinctive theme and ambience taken from the name of the restaurant.
