There are special forces like DSC, NSG, SWAT and others which seldom hog the limelight and generally people do not know much about them.

National Security Guard:
The National Security Guard is India's premier counter-terrorism force. The NSG provides security to VIPs and conducts anti-sabotage checks.

Garud Commando Force:
Formed in 2004, the Garud Commando Force is the special force unit of the Indian Air Force.

SWAT: SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) is equipped with specialized firearms including sub-machine guns, assault rifles, breaching shotguns, sniper rifles, riot control agents and stun grenades. It was adopted from United States.

Defence Security Corps:
The Defence Security Corps (DSC), previously known as Defence Department Constabulary Centre, was founded on  April 25, 1947 at Mathura in Uttar Pradesh.

MARCOS (Marine Commandos) is a special forces unit and it was raised by the Indian Navy in 1987. It is reinforced for direct action, special reconnaissance, amphibious warfare and counter-terrorism.

Para Commandos: Para Commandos, the largest part of the special forces of India was formed in 1966.

Ghatak Force: Like its name Ghatak (Killer), the infantry platoon goes for the attack and spearheads strikes ahead of a battalion.

COBRA: Incepted in 2008, COBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) is a specialised unit of the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force). It was formed to check Naxals across the country.

Special Frontier Force: Formed during 1962 Indo-China war, the special force for covert operations exhibits extraordinary valour in the war.
