With the advent of multiplexes, Indian movie makers took to producing short length movies so as to run more shows in a single day. But, there was a time when an average Indian movie would run for 160 to 180 minutes, and some even crossing the 3 hours mark and having 2 intervals.

Here, we bring you some of the lengthiest movies ever produced in India:

1. Thavamai Thavamirundhu:  Directed by Cheran and produced by P Shanmugam, Tamil movie Thavamai Thavamirundhu (2005) was 275 minutes (4h 35 minutes) long. The film portrays the struggles of a father who wants to make his children successful in life.0


2. Tamas: Directed by Govind Nihalani, Tamas was released in 1988. Starring veteran actor Om Puri, Tamas was based on the Hindi novel of the same name written by Bhisham Sahni. Set in the backdrop of Partition of India, the movie was 275 minutes (4h 35 minutes) long.


3. Daana Veera Soora Karna: Directed, produced, and acted by N T Rama Rao, Telugu movie Daana Veera Soora Karna was 257 minutes (4h 17minutes) long. Released in 1977, it was a mythological movie portraying the character of Karna from Mahabharata.


4. LOC Kargil: Directed by veteran film maker JP Dutta, it was based on the 1999 Kargil War. Released in 2003, the movie had a runtime of 225 minutes (4h 15 minutes). It was a multi-starrer featuring Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and the other. Give more names

6. Sangam: One of the finest romantic movies of Bollywood, Sangam was 238 minutes (3h 58 minutes) long. Directed and produced by Raj Kapoor, the movie was released in 1964.
