New Delhi: NDMC's multi-level parking to negotiate space crunch in the national capital will take some time to open as it has not received an NOC from the fire department.

Due to inadequate fire arrangements at parking areas at Connaught Place and Sarojini Nagar, No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire department has not been awarded.

Recently, officials from fire service department took stock of the multi-level parkings and found that arrangements for ventilation and other necessary equipments for firefighting have not been made so far.

However, to install fire equipments and the process of ventilation will take two more months. The parking lot has already missed the deadline of June 30.

The NDMC had given contract of Baba Kharag Singh parking facility on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis. The constructions started in 2009 and all machines in this 10-floor parking level were installed. Trial runs have also begun.

According to fire department official Vipin Cantel, adequate arrangements to tackle fire have not been made and fire fighting equipments haven't also been placed.

Similarly, Sarojini Nagar multi-level parking facility could not receive an NOC due to inadequate fire arrangements.

NDMC’s fire officer Jasbir Singh said, “We have informed about the loopholes and an NOC will be awarded once they are rectified.”

Around 1,408 and 824 cars at Baba Kharag Singh Marg and Sarojini Nagar will be parked respectively at these parking levels.
