Communal situation has become bad to worse especially in states like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, AAP leader Yogendra Yadav said, delivering a lecture on 'Future of Alternative Politics' at the Press Club in the Kerala capital.
Stating that it was a serious development, he alleged that incidents of communal violence have occurred in Uttar Pradesh, particularly in constituencies where by-polls are due, after BJP came to power.
However, he said BJP coming to power and rout of Congress has given rise to a window of opportunity for alternative politics in the country.
“Alternative politics should not be based just on realignment of parties but should be realignment of voters,” he added.
“AAP has proved that alternative politics in the country was viable and the anti-corruption movement of Anna Hazare had unleashed a positive energy into Indian politics,” he said.
The lecture was organized in memory of journalist N Narendran.
