Bankura: The roads of Bankura district wore a deserted look as drivers and conductors of all private buses and taxis on Tuesday launched an indefinite strike demanding social security, immediate repair of damaged roads and an end to police harassment.

Under the strike, called by four unions including CITU and INTUC, comes about 400 private buses and 150 taxis, union sources said.

Most of the schools and colleges in villages and towns remained unattended by teachers and students for the strike, official sources said.
