As the countrymen celebrate our 69th Independence Day with great pride and respect, we bring you some iconic patriotic Bollywood movies of all times:


The most powerful patriotic film made on India's freedom struggle was just released in 1948 a year after country's Independence. Starring Dilip Kumar and Kamini Kaushal, the movie was directed by Ramesh Sehgal.

Mother India

Starring Nargis, Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar, Raaj Kumar in lead roles, the 1957 Mehboob Khan directorial film was one of the legendary films of Indian cinema. The movie showcased India's rural life as the real soul and essence of the country. Portraying the importance and power of Indian woman, the movie was titled 'Mother India'.


The 1997 year released epic film, directed by JP Dutta was based on the real life events happened at the  Battle of Longewala fought in Rajasthan during India-Pakistani War of 1971. The multi-starrer cast film was a huge commercial success at the box office and won the hearts of millions.


The 1982 released phenomenal film directed by Ben Kingsley that showcased the life of the father of the nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a notable film in Indian cinema. The entire movie  revolved around Gandhi's freedom struggle,
Lagaan: The 2001 released film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and starring Aamir Khan, Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne was the greatest hit of all times. The movie based on the period of India's colonial British Raj won several awards for its plot and direction. Till the date, cinelovers are all gaga about 'Lagaan'.

Legend of Bhagat Singh

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, this was another hit film released in 2002 that boosted the feelings of patriotism and nationalism. The movie revolved around the life of Revolutionary leader Shaheed Bhagat Singh. The movie starred  Ajay Devgn as Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

LOC Kargil

The 2003 released film was another commendable movie dedicated to Indian soldiers who fought with all their strength and will power in Kargil.  The movie won millions of hearts and garnered positive reviews even from its critics.

Rang De Basanti

Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra in 2006, the movie was a blockbuster. The highly motivational movie based on how a British documentary filmmaker decides to film a picture on Indian freedom fighters. She ends up taking five young men from Delhi University to act in her film. Meanwhile, the youngsters realise the missing patriotic and devotional feelings among youth.


Directed by Farhan Akhtar in the year 2004, the movie starring Hrithik Roshan was based on historical events of Kargil conflict in 1999. The movie was a brilliant piece of Indian cinema. The movie also starred in Preity Zinta, Amitabh Bachchan, Om Puri and Boman Irani in lead roles.
