Allahabad: The Union Urban and Rural Development Ministry has constituted Independent Review Monitoring Agency (IRMA) to monitor the effective implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) schemes at state and local level.

The scheme was launched in 2007 in all states together. Under this scheme, projects like e-governance, sewer line, drinking water pipeline, sewerage treatment plant, overhead tank, etc are going on in Allahabad, Kanpur, Varanasi, Agra, Lucknow, Mathura and Meerut.

Keeping a tight vigil on these ongoing works, IRMA at the central level, Project Management Unit (PMU) at the state level and Project Implementation Unit (PIU) at the local level are functioning.

Anomalies were reported in the projects undertaken in the Phase-I.

The decision of forming IRMA was taken during a review meeting in September. The second phase of the JNNURM will start from March 2012.

This will ensure minimizing of irregularities in the schemes.
