Kinnaur is part of the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency.

Negi, who retired as a teacher from a government school in 1975, has never missed the chance to exercise his franchise since he voted for the first time in October 25, 1951. Negi also appealed other people to cast their vote terming it as the biggest right given by the Indian Constitution.

97-year-old Negi, a voter in all 15 Lok Sabha elections apart from the assembly and local body polls in the state, has also featured in a video by Google India as part of its #PledgeToVote campaign.

According to sources, Negi received a grand welcome at the polling booth. Before he voted, he was presented with a shawl and a garland.
