Chandigarh: Adapting to the technology driven 21st century, India is gearing up to protect itself from enemies in a hi-tech manner. Recently, the scientists at Chandigarh based Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) created country’s first electromagnetic bomb also called e-bomb.

E-bomb is an electromagnetic weapon that will cut off power in an area where it is dropped. Consequently, it will destroy most machines that use electricity like generators, mobiles and there would be no chance of making a phone call. In a matter of seconds, an e-bomb would take the entire city back to 200 years.

Giving detailed information about the e-bomb, Director TBRL Dr Manjeet Singh said, “E-bomb is the part of security system in 21st century. The bomb weighs 2 kilos and 400 grams.  In order to explode this, it has to be dropped from a plane and then by using an aerial it can be triggered. The bomb when dropped will immediately cut off electricity and stop electronic items from working.”

Interestingly, the capacity of the bomb can be increased or decreased. Presently Russia is equipped with this electromagnetic weapon and in Asia India is the only country to have e-bomb.
An expert in electromagnetic weapon and scientist SP Sodhi informed that the bomb has been created with the Compact Pulse Power source which will be used in future to create new hi-tech weapons.

“The technique has been forwarded to Ministry of Defence and will soon be added to the Indian Army’s arsenal,” said Sodhi.
