This large number of auto recall has forced Indian government to introduce a mandatory vehicle-recall policy for auto makers.

The problem is not only limited to cars as nearly 11,500 motorcycles have been recalled in the first six month of the year 2013.

There have been two auto recalls in the month of July alone. Ford recalled around 972 units of its diesel powered compact SUV Ecosport on 11th July, less than a month after its launch. Yamaha too recalled 56,082 units of its Ray automatic scooter on July 20. Since last year to June 2013, seven recalls have been made which include nine car models of different companies.

Unlike in India, developed markets such as Europe, USA and Japan, have policies compelling automakers to recall vehicles when a fault is detected, failing which a company can be fined and penalized.
