New Delhi: Despite repeated promises of strategic cooperation and friendship, the US Department of State on its website has been showing the map of PoK as part of Pakistan. Irked over the issue, India has cautioned Washington to rectify the mistake at the earliest.

“As far as the PoK issue is concerned, the maps will have to be corrected," Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai said here on Monday.

While the Foreign Ministry instructed the US embassy to change the map, it just received assurances that India’s objections will soon be conveyed to the White House.

Mathai said the External Affairs Ministry was talking to a number of nations and organisations who have been wrongly showing Indian territories in some other countries.

According to the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry, Vishnu Prakash, “the government is keeping an eye on the severe mistakes made in the Indian map on the government website of the US and the issue of improvement has been raised time and again.”

Declaring entire Jammu and Kashmir as an inseparable part of India, the Foreign Ministry has requested the world fraternity to use maps showing the correct boundaries of India.

However, till late Monday morning, the website was displaying the wrong map of India in spite of sharp criticism by the Indian government.

In the last few years, there have been several instances where international organisations such as Google have showed PoK as part of Pakistan which could be corrected only on India’s protest on the issue.

It is to be noted, a Chinese company which came to India for investment had shown in its brochure, parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin as part of China. However, journalists had drawn flak from the Ambassador of China in India on throwing light on the issue but he had maintained silence on the issue in the name of technical faults.
