New Delhi: In a bid to bring the Indian nationals stranded in Libya back to the country, the Centre has expedited the required arbitration proceedings.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has arranged two flights to evacuate the foreign nationals stranded in Libya. India is also one of the participants in the evacuation exercise.

External Affairs Ministry sources said efforts are underway to get the body of Indian national Imtiaz Alam back to India.

Imtiaz Alam, who was working at the residence of a Libyan dignitary in Tripoli, succumbed to his injuries in a bombing attack last week.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vishnu Prakash said, “The IOM has arranged two flights to evacuate the foreign nationals. The remaining Indians stranded in Libya have been informed in this regard.”

The Indian Mission is striving hard to ensure the safe return of its citizens.

It is worth mentioning that India had evacuated over 15,000 stranded citizens under the ‘Operation Safe Homecoming’ in February and March.
