New Delhi: After the recent incident of NRI couples child custody case in Norway, the External Affairs Ministry has decided to deploy a Public Welfare Officer at all Indian embassies around the world. External Affairs Minister SM Krishna has advised all the Indian ambassadors to assist the Indians to tackle their problems.

According to sources, Krishna has urged the Indian ambassadors to appoint an officer who would look after the grievances registered by the Indians. He has directed the ambassadors to fix a day for meeting the Indians residing abroad.

Krishna expressed his disappointment over the Indian ambassador to Norway, Anuj Tyagi’s approach in the NRI couple case. Tyagi did not even meet the couple for many days after their children were seized by the Norwegian government.

Only after SM Krishna’s appeal on January 23, the Norwegian government acted upon the case and decided to hand over the custody of the children to their relatives. Children’s uncle has been sent to Norway in this regard. Abhigyan (3) and Aishwarya (1) were taken away from their biological parents by the Norwegian Child Welfare Services in May 2011.
