New Delhi: In a bid to restrict the misuse and irregularities prospering in Tatkal ticket scheme, the Indian Railways on Saturday announced the reduction of reservation period to 24 hours from the existing 48 hours.

The ticket booking facility for the agents will not be opened between 8 am and 10 am.

According to the new rules, the passenger on whose name the reservation has been made has to attach his voter identity cards or the UIDAI cards along the reservation slip. While the passengers using online facility to book tickets will have to mention their identity card numbers in the prescribed form.

On one PNR, booking of only four passengers will be allowed under the new tatkal norms. Moreover, the internet booking agents using IRCTC for reservation can book only one tatkal ticket per train on daily basis.

There will be no refund on the confirmed tatkal tickets after cancellation unless the train is running late by 3 hours.

In a bid to ensure the proper implementation of these rules, the railways are going to install CCTV cameras on the ticketing counters.
