Unfortunately, the stellar record of our IAF has not got its due fame. Upcoming Bollywood movie 'Airlift' brought the saga of army operations in lime light. In a deadliest 59 days evacuation, IAF's 488 flights rescued 170,000 Indians.

Interestingly, the massive Air Force operations were successfully conducted in strife-torn Kuwait where India's Air Force was not rated so powerful like today. It was a success of Indian government's diplomacy as well. In the tenure of Chandra Shekhar as Prime Minister, thousands of people were evacuated. Also, the then External Affairs Minister Indra Kumar Gujaral's diplomatic acumen had played key role to deal with defiant Iraq's Saddam Hussein administration.

The gulf war which was broken out to capture Kuwait's oil-wells had endangered life of thousands of civilians.

It was a great challenge for India to save its citizens as that time India's bilateral relations with Iraq and Kuwait were not so strong but strategy of IAF officers and support of some Indians, living in Kuwait made the evacuation operations possible.

Akshay Kumar starrer Bollywood movie 'Airlift' highlights one of the such forgotten heroes who had supported IAF officers during the tough operations. The movie depicts Ranjit Katyal's valour act  for saving Indian citizens during the war. He was a powerful Indian businessman in Kuwait.
