Chandigarh: Criticising Congress-led UPA for increasing diesel price and the policy on cooking gas, opposition INLD in Haryana on Friday threatened to launch a statewide protest.

The INLD in a statement warned of launching demonstration and protest rallies across the state to pressurise the Centre to rollback the fuel price hike.

Punjab unit of CPI (M) also held rallies across the state to protest hike in diesel price and restricting supply of subsidised cooking gas.

Industrial workers took out processions and burnts effigies of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to express their displeasure against the "anti-people" decisions.

Rallies were held at various places including Ludhiana, Raikot, Hoshiarpur, Dehlon, Sangrur, Barnala and Malerkotla.

The government had on Thursday hiked diesel prices by a steep Rs 5.62 per litre and restricted supply of subsidized cooking gas to six cylinders per household in a year to fetch an additional Rs 20,300 crore.
