The officer, Bikash Singh, and the cloth merchant were travelling in a passenger vehicle bound to the district headquarter along with 12 others when they were intercepted and taken at gun point at the Reserve Forest at around 8:30 am a day before, SP Lakador Syiem said.
The exact location where the incident took place was located between Amphangre and Phanda villages, he said. The cloth merchant, hailing from Assam, was identified as Kamal Saha.
Syiem did not confirm rumours that both the victims might have been killed. A massive man hunt has been launched in all sensitive areas while the BSF has sealed the International Border to prevent the duo from being taken across the border, the SP said.
Syiem said there was possibility of ASAK militant group being involved in the kidnap. Asked if the family members have received any ransom demand, the SP denied having any information in this regard.
