New Delhi: Expressing concerns over ceasefire announced by the Maoists in Jangalmahal of West Bengal, the intelligence agencies said that under the guise of peace initiative the extremists may aim to increase their strength in the area.

The intelligence agencies have already cautioned the state government on this issue.

A senior intelligence official said the Maoists may lay the dynamite and start new recruitments during the ceasefire as they did during the peace initiative with Andhra Pradesh government in 2004.

Similar offer has been made by the West Bengal unit of Maoists. However, only the Central Committee and the politburo of Maoist groups are entitled to make any such move.

If the Maoists are really serious about the resuming peace talks in WB, they should offer the similar negotiations for other states too, added the intelligence Officer.
