1. Grew up in a banana farm:
Phil's father managed a banana farm in Macksville, New South Wales. He was known to work in the farm with even after becoming a professional cricketer. He enjoyed taking care of animals as well.


2. Was passionate for cricket even as a child:
His father used to bowl him deliveries in the backyard everyday, till they he managed to a bowling machine for Phil, who, he told, practiced 150-200 balls everyday.


3. He was the youngest playerafter Michael Clarke to represent New South Wales:
Hughes was merely 18 when he represented New South Wales in First-Class cricket. He played the match ten days before his 19th birthday.


4. His namesakes:
Phil Hughes has a namesake in two other sportspersons, one of them being a baseball player and other being a cricket player like himself.


5. He is the seventh youngest cricketer to die:
He died at the age of 25, five days before his birthday. The youngest being Abdul Aziz of Pakistan who died at the young age of 18.
