Chandigarh: The Haryana government is committed to safeguard the interests of labour class of the state and several steps have been initiated to uplift the weaker section of the society.

Disclosing this in Chandigarh, an official spokesman said that the government has decided to implement four new schemes for the section from January 1 this year and to increase the amount of financial help being provided through other schemes.

These schemes included providing the facility of LTC to labourers, sewing machines to women labourers and financial help to children of industrial labourers, who have won several sports and cultural competitions.

He said that the state government has also decided to increase the amount of financial help being provided through various schemes of Labour Welfare Board. These included increase in financial help being given to widow or dependant of labourer from Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh.

The amount of scholarships being given to children will be enhanced from a minimum of Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,000 and maximum of Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000, the spokesman said.

The financial assistance being given in case of physical disability caused due to some accident would be increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 and a maximum to Rs 30,000, he added.
