Dehradun: The International Yoga Mahotsav jointly organized under the aegis of Uttarakhand Tourism Development Council and Parmarth Niketan begins here on Thursday.

While all the preparations have been completed in this regard, 479 representatives of 31 countries have already arrived in the state capital.

The formal inauguration of the week long International Yoga festival will be held on Thursday on the banks of river Ganges.

Addressing a press conference at Parmarth Niketan, Sadhvi Bahgwati Saraswati said, “470 yogis have already arrived from 31 nations while the number is expected to cross 500.”

Yogis from America, Canada, Australia, Italy, California, Germany, England, France, Russia, Spain and other nations have registered themselves for the festival, she added.

Besides Yoga science, teachings will also be imparted on Ayurveda, Indian medical technique and Indian spirituality. 

Anupama, Ganga Action Parivar, said, “An exhibition of paintings by traditional Indian artists will also be organized at the festival.”

Moreover, teams of Tourism Development Council and Culture Department will participate in cultural programmes which will be the centre of attraction at the event.
