Washington: Two candidates who are in the race for the post of Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) namely Agustin Carstens and Christine Lagarde, will hold meetings with the board this week to present their views and respond to questions.

Carstens is visiting the IMF on June 20-21 and will meet with the board on June 21 while Lagarde is visiting on June 22-23 and will meet the board on June 23.

"During their visits,both candidates will also meet seperately with the executive directors," an IMF spokesperson said.

"During their informal meetings with the board, each candidate will present his views on issues facing the fund and the membership while the Executive Directors will be able to exchange their views with the candidates," the spokesperson said.

The IMF Board is scheduled to meet on June 28 to discuss the strength of each candidate which aims  completing the selection process by June 30, the spokesperson said.

"In terms of the selection process,although the board may select a Managing Director with a majority of the votes , the board's objective is to select the Managing Director by consensus in a formal meeting," said the spokesperson, adding that the final selection of the next Managing Director will be announced through a press release.
