The Rising Pune Supergiants, owned by Sanjiv Goenka, will clash with Mumbai Indians on April  9 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in its debut match in IPL9.

Now, all eyes are on Mahendra Sigh Dhoni, former captain of Chennai Super Kings who won the IPL twice, defeating Mumbai Indians by 22 runs in 2010 and Royal Challengers Bangalore by 58 runs in 2011, and also being runners-up thrice–2012, 2013, and 2015.  Dhoni has an experience of leading the team in 5 final matches out of 8 editions of IPL history but the 9th edition would be challenging for him since he is leading a new team.

Also, this time the scenario would be different as his troubleshooter Suresh Raina is not a part of his new squad. Interestingly, Dhoni will have to fight against Raina who will be playing for another new team, Gujarat Lions.

The biggest challenge for the Indian Test skipper is to bring the team together under the new banner with a completely different set of cricketers. It is always difficult to transform a brand new team into overnight champions, but going by the records, Dhoni is someone who is known for taking the most challenging assignments and executing them successfully. New Zealand's super star cricketer and former captain Stephen Fleming in his role as the head coach of RPS will be a major support for Dhoni.

Known for his cool temperament and positive attitude, Dhoni's leadership is once again to be put to the test as he is in the same game albeit with a different unit.

Rising Pune Supergiants squad:  MS Dhoni (C), Ajinkya Rahane,  Faf du Plessis, Steve Smith, Saurabh Tiwary, Irfan Pathan, Mitchell Marsh, Thisara Perera, Baba Aparajith, Ankit Sharma, Rajat Bhatia, Albie Morkel,  Ankush Bains, Peter Handscomb, Ishant Sharma,  Ravichandran Ashwin, RP Singh, Ashok Dinda, Scott Boland, Ishwar Pandey, Deepak Chahar, Jaskaran Singh, Murugan Ashwin, and Adam Zampa.
