The film, which released on July 22, deals with a common man's struggle against the system with an underlying father-son relationship and their bond. It minted Rs 20.55 crore in its opening weekend.

Talking about the success of the film, Irrfan said in a statement: "With 'Madaari', I experienced something completely new. Apart from critical acclaim, people's reaction touched my heart.
