Ahmedabad, Jan 27 (Jagran News Network): The Ishrat Jahan case took a curious turn on Friday when the investigating officer and Joint Commissioner of Police, Satish Verma filed an affidavit in the Gujarat High Court stating the Ishrat Jahan encounter was fake.

Verma in his affidavit has mentioned that the attempts were being made to derail the investigation.

The SIT has three officers, Karnal Singh of the Delhi police (suggested by the Union Home Ministry), Mohan Jha (a Gujarat cadre IPS officer suggested by the Gujarat government) and Satish Verma , a Gujarat cadre officer suggested by the victim’s parents.

It was also known that Ishrat Jahan and her three accomplices were kept in the custody for four days in the same farmhouse, where Sohrabbudin’s wife Kauserbi was kept, before the four were killed.

Verma claimed in his affidavit to have the recorded videos and other details to prove that the encounter was staged. “A head constable in his statement has revealed that he saw one of Ishrat’s friends being blindfolded and taken to the spot in a blue Indica where he was later killed,” it said.

In 2004, Mumbai girl Ishrat and three others were gunned down by the Gujarat police on the outskirts of the state. The Gujarat police has been maintaining that Ishrat was a LeT (Lashkar-e-Tayyaba) operative.

At that time, DG Vanzara, encounter specialist was part of the team that killed the four. Interestingly, Ishrat was shot down by the same officer who killed Sohrabuddin and Kauserbi in 2005.
