Jabalpur: The Jabalpur High Court has been requested to ensure that the probe in the sensational Jabalpur Medical College sex scandal is carried out under its direct supervision.

On the PIL filed by a lawyer Surendra Sharma, the bench of Justice SR Alam and IS Jha has instructed the Higher Education department and Rani Durgavati University to submit their report within the next three weeks.

Sharma in his petition has said that previously he had filed a petition against the prevailing corruption in the re-evaluation department of the university, on which a judgment is still awaited.

He said it has been found that there are several gross anomalies in the functioning of the institution, which is proving a hindrance in the path of its progress.

Sharma raised doubts over the fair functioning of the committee constituted by the state administration to probe the sex scandal. The petitioner maintained that the committee is headed by a person who during his tenure as Chancellor of Riva University had been alleged of several irregularities in the institution.

Sharma also said people involved in the crime had political connections, therefore he has appealed to get the investigation done under the supervision of the High Court.
