Ranchi: Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday raised serious concerns over functioning of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) in Jharkhand.

Reacting to a complaint lodged by Godda MP Nishikant Dubey over the misuse of NREGA funds, Ramesh wrote a letter to Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda seeking a probe into the issue of misuse of funds under the MNREGA scheme in Jharkhand and urged for action against errant officials.

The Rural Development Minister in his letter to Munda had also mentioned about the major financial irregularities under MNREGA schemes. Jairam came to know about the incident in which a person is getting paid on the name of another person who died a year ago.

Minister further said there are many cases of funds misuse of MNREGA in Godda, Deogarh and Dumka areas and all those matters are very serious.

“I had given a nod to the construction of 80,000 wells in Jharkhand, however as per the information and evidences provided by Nishikant Dubey about the muddle in MNREGA schemes, we can’t ignore them,” added Jairam.

Notably, the Godda MP earlier met Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh and discussed about the wrongdoing under the MNREGA scheme and provided some evidences related to that. He has also informed Jairam about the wages irregularities under MNREGA schemes in Godda, Deogarh and Dumka areas.
