New Delhi:  Union Ministers have already taken up cudgels to prepare political ground for Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi for the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh scheduled for 2012.

Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has taken up the responsibility to woo the state farmers and help Gandhi to prepare strong political ground.

Last month, Gandhi had infused a new life in the moribund state unit of Congress by holding a foot-march in villages of UP which were marred by Land Acquisition disputes. It had stirred up the hornet’s nest as farmers had strongly backed Gandhi’s campaign.

Following his footsteps, Ramesh too will visit the rural belts to help revive the party in UP.

In the next few days, Ramesh is expected to visit the villages of Yamuna Expressway and hear the grievances of the villagers. Gandhi during his recent campaign against the UP state government has visited the area.

Congress Secretary Vivek Bansal has been assigned the task of arranging a meeting of the Rural Development Minister with the farmers of Bhatta- Parasul. Bansal will start the preparations in this regard from Wednesday.

Thereafter, the party would work towards convincing farmers’ from Tappal and Amroha. During the meetings, Ramesh would also collect the feedback on the draft prepared for Land Acquisition.

Ramesh said, after listening to the problems of the farmers, he will take their suggestions for pragmatic solutions.

However, he is regularly consulting representatives of various organizations, industry associations and other experts on the draft for Land Acquisition.

UP farmers have expressed willingness to discuss the issues, hence their suggestions are important for the Government, he added.
