New Delhi: The Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal on Wednesday explained to the Election Commission that his remark on imposition of President’s rule in Uttar Pradesh was in a reply to a question asked by media.

To validate his claim, the Union Minister also submitted a video CD and newspaper clippings alongwith his written reply to the Commission.

The Election Commission is likely to take the decision on alleged violation of model code of conduct on Thursday.

Jaiswal’s remark stirred controversy in the political arena and even earned the ire of the Election Commission. Taking cognizance, the EC slapped a showcause notice on February 24 holding his statement in violation of model code of conduct.

However, after Jaiswal’s plea to extend the time for reply, the EC granted him time till February 29.
