Speaking at an event conducted by the yoga guru’s supporters on Sunday, Jaitley said Ramdev’s unselfish mottos and campaign against black money and corruption is commendable while also comparing him with Jayaprakash Narayan.

“The role played by Ramdev in awakening the voters is similar to the struggles of Mahatma Gandhi and Jayaprakash Narayan. He had no greed for any post... His motto is to strengthen the system,” Jaitley said.

“Ramdev's campaign against black money and corruption is similar to those of Mahatma Gandhi and Jayaprakash Narayan,” he added.

The loudmouth yoga guru, who had recently courted controversy over his comments on the Dalits and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, had vociferously batted for Narendra Modi as the country’s next Prime Minister and had vowed not to go back to his main ashram till the UPA was thrown out of power at the Centre.

Jaitley had been tipped to land a major role in Modi’s Cabinet. However, his defeat in the Lok Sabha elections has put question marks over it.

Some leaders in the party, however, believe that considering Jaitley’s experience and his closeness to Modi, he would still be given a major role in the next government through the Rajya Sabha route.
