New Delhi: The Jamia Millia Islamia is going to establish centres for studies on China and Afghanistan in its campus soon, which have been sanctioned by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

According to the Jamia administration, China and Afghanistan are two important neighboring countries of India. The aim of establishing these studies centers is to develop the historical and cultural understanding of these two countries along with India among the students.

"The studies centres will encourage interdisciplinary research focusing on history, sociology, politics, economics and languages of these two countries. This will also help in setting up cultural harmony among students in the future," they added.

According to Jamia Millia’s media coordinator Prof Seema Malhotra, “There are many university-sponsored programmes on Africa, West Asia, Central Asia, Pakistan and Bangladesh, which have developed awareness amongst the students and help them to debate on social and global issues.
