Jamshedpur: Even after Monday’s humiliating defeat of the ruling BJP in the by-election for Jamshedpur parliamentary seat, Chief Minister Arjun Munda has refused to accept his government’s defeat in the by-elections.

While addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister said, “Technically the BJP has been defeated. Had we fought the elections with our friendly parties like Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and All Jharkhand Students Union, the result would have been different.”
The votes won by the ruling party are more than the victorious party, he said, adding the party will look into the reasons of defeat.

Terming the CD controversy as a sensitive issue, Munda said, “CID will look into the dispute.” The CD issued by BJP legislator Saryu Rai just a day before the by-elections had revealed the conversation between Samarji, member of banned Naxal outfit CPI (Maoist) and JVM candidate Dr Ajay Kumar.

Meanwhile accepting the defeat, JMM chief Sibu Soren blamed the party candidate for the debacle. He said, “Empty promises are not going to help the candidate as people are well aware of the ground realities. In such circumstances a non-performing candidate will have to face the defeat.”

Deputy Chief Minister Hemant Soren said, “Public along with the party focuses on the candidate too. We will examine the reasons of defeat. We will strengthen the party and work on introducing new faces to strengthen the organisation.”

The state government is formed to bring development by protecting the democracy and hence defeat has no impact on our government, he added.
