Jamshedpur: A farmer was killed when a speeding truck hit his bullock cart on Jamsola road in Ghatsila sub-division on Tuesday, police said. The incident took place when the farmer identified as 45-year-old Haru Munda was on his way to plough his paddy field in a bullock-cart when the speeding truck coming from opposite direction hit it, police said.

Seriously injured Munda was rushed to nearby hospital but doctors declared him brought dead while the cattle driving the cart was injured.

The truck driver managed to flee along with the vehicle following the incident but the police gave a chase and seized the truck near Odisha border.

The driver, however, managed to escape, sources said. Meanwhile, a large number of local residents assembled on the spot and put road blockade demanding immediate arrest of the culprit and adequate compensation to victim’s family.

The road traffic on was badly hit on the National Highway 6 following the blockade on Jamsola-Baripada road for about four hours. The blockade was lifted after the district administration assured to look into the demand and handed over Rs 10,000 and seven days ration to the deceased family.
