Tokyo: Japan's Parliament revised a law concerning measures to combat global warming and to create a new plan for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has called for revising the previous government's international pledge to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent from 1990 by 2020.

The government has urged the people and industrial world to retain or enhance emission-cutting efforts until the new plan is put in place ahead of an annual international meeting on global warming in November.
