New Delhi: Japanese automobile major Nissan Motor on Tuesday said it will introduce 10 new models in India, including small car Datsun, by 2016.

"India presents a very big opportunity for us. Our plan is to become a major player in India and for this we plan to introduce models in all the segments," Toru Hasegawa, corporate vice-president, Africa, Middle East and India for Nissan Motor, told reporters in New Delhi.

When asked about the launch of Datsun, Hasegawa said the company planned to launch two models of the brand in India. The initial launch is expected to take place by 2014."We know the price sensitive small car market is big in India and we have plans for that segment as well," he said referring to Datsun.

Hasegawa was speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the company's seven-seater multi-utility vehicle (MUV) Evalia priced between Rs.8,49,000-Rs.9,99,000 for the four variants in which the vehicle is available.

According to the company, the MUV, manufactured at its Oragadam plant near Chennai, is aimed at urban professionals' business and leisure needs.

"We have been able to aggressively position it (Evalia) thanks to localisation in excess of 80 percent, which also reaffirms our long-term commitment to India and our Indian customers," Hasegawa said.

The MUV is powered by a 1.5 litre four cylinder diesel engine with intercooler and a five speed gearbox. Evalia gives a mileage of 19.3 km per litre.
