New Delhi: Causing more than Rs 100 crore loss to the Railways till now, the ongoing Jat agitation continued to disrupt train services on Wednesday with the cancellation of 74 trains and short termination of 37 others.

The agitation by the community on Delhi-Bathinda section of Northern Railway and Bikaner and Jaipur Division of North Western Railway since March 5 has caused more than Rs 100 crore losses to the Railways.

"Though we have not calculated the exact amount of loss due to the Jat agitation, it is estimated to be more than Rs 5 crore a day due to the cancellation and short termination of trains," a senior Railway Ministry official said.

Railways has cancelled as many as 2,582 trains till March 22, according to the data prepared by the ministry.

In order to help passengers, the Railways has opened additional counters to refund fares to passengers due to the cancellation of trains.

"We have refunded Rs 7 crore to 8 lakh passengers till March 19," said the official.

The trains which were cancelled include New Delhi- Ahmedabad-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Kalka-New Delhi-Kalka Shatabdi Express, Delhi Sarai Rohilla- Kalka Himalayan Queen Express, Ahmedabad-Haridwar Express, Delhi Sarai Rohilla- Jodhpur Rajasthan Express, Jaipur-Amritsar Express, Jaipur- Chandigarh-Jaipur Garib Rath Express, Sriganganagar-Delhi Sarai Rohilla AC Express, Ahmedabad-Delhi Ashram Express,
Ahmedabad-Haridwar Express and Haridwar-Sriganganagar Intercity Express.

Railways has announced the cancellation of 52 trains and short termination of 28 trains on Thursday keeping the ongoing agitation in mind.

In order to provide information to the passengers Northern Railway has provided helplines (011-23369804 and 011-23367724) at New Delhi station.
