Sources said Javadekar held a long meeting with officials of Prasar Bharati, Doordarshan and All India Radio earlier this week when detailed presentations on various issues related to the public broadcaster were made.
Javadekar asked officials why Doordarshan did not have an animation-based channel or a channel specifically for children. Sources said officials present said the costs for producing animation content were high.
He also made inquiries about the plans for Doordarshan's international channel. The minister is also learnt to have expressed keen interest in AIR's FM network.
"The minister took keen interest in various issues related to Doordarshan and AIR. He stressed that efforts should be made so that the content of the national broadcaster improves to ensure that it becomes the number one choice of more and more people in the country," a source said.
